About the Founder
Dan’s Story
I grew up in my father’s Ace Hardware store. By the age of 8, I was already cutting keys, pinning locks, and doing basic locksmithing behind the counter — long before most kids had their first job.
As I got older, I got hooked on the why behind it all — how every pin, spring, and cam worked together to make a lock do its job. After I graduated high school, I took over the locksmith side of the hardware store full-time.
With so many customers coming through the doors every day, I started hearing the same story over and over: people had been ripped off by fake locksmiths. Overcharged. Pressured. Sometimes even locked out of their own homes twice — once by the door, and again by the scammer they called to fix it. I was young, and there wasn’t a lot I could do at the time.
But I knew one thing:
I wanted to build something big, and I wanted to do it right.
The top listings on Google, the kiosks in big-box stores that sell jobs to random unlicensed “technicians” — most of them are scams. I decided a long time ago that I’d rather be the guy who stands behind every job than the guy chasing quick money.
In mid-2015, I sat down with my father and told him it was time. I bought a van, and Dan’s Lock and Key was born.
We kept operating out of Ace Hardware until 2019, when I finally opened our first shop on Route 13 — a milestone that turned the dream I’d had since I was a kid into something real.
Today, Dan’s Lock and Key is what I always wanted it to be: a licensed, local, trustworthy locksmith you can actually count on. No gimmicks. No middlemen. Just honest work, done by people who genuinely love the craft.
